The ecclesiastical complex of the Church of the Mariavites in Grzmiąca

The parish in Grzmiąca was founded when Augustyn Gostyński, the vicar of a Roman Catholic parish in Brzeziny, had decided to become a follower of the Mariavite movement. Since the town of Grzmiąca was located in close proximity to Brzeziny, a Mariavite church was built in Grzmiąca during the 1908-1911 period.

History

Having been the vicar of a Roman Catholic parish in Brzeziny, the Reverend Augustyn Gostyński, had decided to become a follower of the Mariavite movement. The Father Augustyn was forced to leave the church in Brzeziny after the announcement of the papal anathema in 1906, condemning the Mariavites.  A large number of followers and the close proximity to the town of Brzeziny had influenced the choice of localisation, and the village of Grzmiąca had eventually been selected.  The construction of the church was started in 1908, and it lasted until 1911.  The newly built building was consecrated by the Bishop Leon Maria Andrzej Gołębiowski, who was also the then ordinary of the diocese of Łódź and Silesia.

The temple in Grzmiąca had become the subsidiary of the Niesułków-Lipka parish.  Three monastic sisters had been administering the subsidiary on a permanent basis.  The church was entirely renovated in 1970.  The single-nave building was reconstructed, and the new church had three naves, a new vault, and also the interior decoration was changed.
