Tourism, culture, sport in regions

There is no need to divide the fields of tourism, culture and sport into categories while projecting and creating e-information system for tourists.

Description

Why a tourist-friendly region should aspire to integration and cooperation in such fields as tourism, culture, sport and broadly understood recreation?

We will try to confirm and justify this view. There are many arguments, which are not difficult to understand.

Before we will present the justification, we ask you to pay attention to the fact that people inspired by cultural or sport events, who are used to every-day recreation in the field, are often:

  • active cycling, hiking, horseback and water tourists,
  • tourists visiting museums, nature reserves and landscape parks,
  • hikers going along thematic trails,
  • football fans following their idols and favourite teams,
  • fans of festivals and other cultural events.

Changing the role or the field, they always have one common feature: they are
ACTIVE
.

They are also always open for every new product, which a tourist-friendly
region offers to them.

When assuming certain issues concerning the promotion of the region or adapting the priorities for the strategies of development of the e-information system for tourists, several observations should be taken into account. The editors of “map4U” collected them in these topics.

The essence of the integration of tourist, cultural and sports e-information

Cultural tourism and sport are phenomena which are interlinked and merging.

Tourism in many regions is inspired by culture and history of the area, as well as sports events.

Cultural regions, historic buildings and cultural and sports events are desired attractions for many tourists.

There are certain forms of tourism, which are called cultural or sports tourism and which fully express the need of integration of tourism, culture and sport.

The justification for the integration of tourist, cultural and sports e-information

For many users, the cultural or sports e-information can function independently, without tourist e-information.

But the tourist e-information cannot function without cultural or sports e-information, since cultural values or sports events form, beside natural values, the basis of the development of tourism and creating tourist products.

Generally, the same people who use tourist information systems, use also cultural information systems (for example, people planning a tourist trip to a given region will search for information concerning the culture of a given place, its historic buildings and cultural heritage).

People interested in sports will appreciate that the calendar database of a region where they are going to contains also information about sports events.

The integration of tourist, cultural and sports information systems facilitates the access to the whole information and makes the search faster.

Mutual promotion of tourist, cultural and sports e-information

Thanks to the integration of systems concerning the above-mentioned fields, people interested in one field can get a comfortable access to information concerning other fields, which can lead to the growth of interest in tourism, culture and sport.

One login to an individual profile in the databases of the portals concerning the discussed fields causes that the user perceives the available information as uniform, consistent and not competing one another.

The contents of the tourist, cultural and sports information systems are similar in many aspects. Tourisms includes:

  • culture, it expands the cultural offer with such facilities as, for example, cinemas and theatres,
  • sport and recreation, it is inspired by championships and matches, uses stadiums, sports halls, pitches, courts and swimming pool.

For formal, organizational and financial reasons we have to distinguish the fields of tourism, culture and sports in many projects. It is a fact that we have specialized ministries for finances and the owners and managers of facilities who not always are able to cooperate. However, the division of the fields of tourism, culture and sport is simply needless when projecting and creating the e-information system for tourists.

Many websites of the portal, along with the package of applications for mobile devices (smartphones, PDA) are reliable multimedia guide linked to an interactive digital map for:

  • tourists – its goal is to point out the requirements and the criteria which they should bear in mind while choosing a region to spend a night or to relax when travelling between stadiums and matches. The guide will present attractions and tourists facilities.
  • businessmen – open for innovation, who should get acquainted with technical possibilities in promoting and offering one’s products and services to multi-language customers using modern telecommunications and mobile technologies.
  • the hosts of the regions – voivodeships, districts and communes, who, using their relevant competence, should organize such events as the local business is waiting for and which require financial and organizational measures appropriate for the scale of the challenge.

We present examples of multimedia presentations, which were created by “Tourist-Friendly Regions” to recommend the preparation of the region to host the fans of EURO 2012, lovers of cultural attractions or fans of different forms of active tourism.

The presentations show as well the particular care of the region in the preparation of the tourist and cultural e-information system.
