Augmented reality [AR] is a technology of connecting images of the real world (usually from a mobile phone’s camera) with elements created using digital technology (3D objects). Using a mobile phone’s camera focused on a given object of the system, the user can get access to additional facts concerning the history and the functions of the object, as well as a visualization of how the object looked like in the past.
Download the Layar application and use the options of augmented reality.
Layar is supported by mobile phones with following operating systems:
The mobile phone has to have a camera, GPS and an accelerometer.
To install Layar on an iPhone, you have to visit App Store, find “Layar” in the search engine and install it.
In the case of mobile phones with the Android system, you have to use Android Market, find the “Layar” application and install it.
Layar is currently working on a version for the Symbian^3 and S60 operating systems (according to the information given by the company, the version should be available within a month). Thanks to that, the list of mobile phones supporting the Layar browser will be extended with several dozen devices.

Here is the presentation showing how technological solutions of augmented reality look like when using the browser:
The film shows in which everyday situations Layar is used: to find a place to eat something, to explore the history of the city, to play games and see what bands are currently preparing for concerts. This film is also the premiere of Floaticons, 3D objects which we all can use to express ourselves in the world of Augmented Reality. ( www.layar.com)
