The Sulejów Landscape Park was established in 1994 and, together with the buffer zone, covers the area of 56 371 ha. The whole area is located within the borders of the Łódź Voivodeship.
In the park there are 11 nature reserves. The park is also crossed by the Zygmunt Goliat’s bicycle lane. Goliat was the originator and the co-creator of the lane. The park protects the river landscape along the valley of the Pilica and some natural monuments.
The most famous part of the Sulejów Landscape Park is the Sulejów Reservoir on the River Pilica. It was built in 1969-1973. Originally, it was supposed to serve mostly fire-fighting purposes and as the source of drinking water for Łódź. However, with time, the recreational function became increasingly more important. Nowadays, it is one of the most popular place of weekend and holiday leisure among people from central Poland.
The Sulejów Landscape Park, together with the Przedbórz and Spała Landscape Parks, creates the Complex of Pilica Landscape Parks.
The park protects the areas very valuable for biology, such as the remains of the Pilica Primeval Forest with fragments of virgin forests protected in 11 nature reserves, nature and landscape complexes and environmental use areas.
The specific arrangements of the management measures in the landscape park are defined by the Protection Plan of the Sulejów Landscape Park.
The Sulejów Landscape Park is located in the central part of the Pilica valley (the section from Skotniki and Łęg Ręczyński on the south to Smardzewice and Swolszewice Małe near Tomaszów Mazowiecki on the north). On the Piotrków Plain the park covers the area from the outskirts of Piotrków Trybunalski. The park is situated within the borders of communes: Ręczno, Aleksandrów, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Sulejów, Wolbórz and Mniszków. Some parts of the park belong also to the Piotrków Trybunalski commune.
