Jasna Gora in Czestochowa - Station 09 - The courtyard in front of the Chapel of the Miraculous Icon
Description
You are now on a small square located between the monastery buildings and the Basilica of Jasna Gora. Once this square was much larger, but after the two expansions of the Chapel of the Miraculous Icon its surface was significantly reduced. If you look at the neo-Renaissance facade of the chapel you will notice that it has two floors (photo 01.09.001). Over the newest part of the chapel there is the "Golgotha of Jasna Gora", created by Jerzy Duda-Gracz, and above the middle part there is the Chapel of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. From the exterior of the chapel it is worth observing the portal that leads to the interior (photo 01.09.002): bound in the metal door there is a crowned eagle and the emblem of Our Lady of Czestochowa, which is the inscription Mary with the crown (photo 01.09.003). A similar emblem is at the top of the chapel facade (photo 01.09.004). Above the entrance there is also a glassed chapel with a copy of the Miraculous Icon (photo 01.09.005). On the facade of the Basilica, you can see two plaques. The first, on the left, is written with the complete text of Jasna Gora Vows of the Polish Nation (photo 01.09.006). This prayer was written by Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, the Primate of the Poland, during the internment in Komancza in 1956. The Jasna Gora Vows were first time read on the 26 August 1956 for about one million pilgrims in Jasna Gora. In the next niche there is plaque with the words of the Act of Trust (photo 01.09.007), uttered by saint John Paul II during his first pilgrimage to Jasna Gora in 1979. On the opposite side there is the entrance to the monastery, decorated with a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child standing on the globe (photo 01.09.008). At the end, please, note the plaque located on the extended part of the monastery, dedicated to the victims of the crash of the government plane in Smolensk in 2010, including the presidential couple Lech and Maria Kaczynski (photo 01.09.009). Please, go now towards west and stop in the service yard.
