Description

The path to the Treasury pass through the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament (photo 01.15.001). The rooms of the treasury are located above the sacristy of the Basilica of Jasna Gora (photo 01.15.002). From the outside, it is worth looking at the rich decoration of the building (photo 01.15.003). In the treasury are kept the precious votive offerings donated to the Serene Lady of Jasna Gora. The gifts are not only valuable objects, but also full of sentimental and memorial value. The treasury was built in the mid-17th century, and the present interior was designed in the early 20th century. The pilgrims initially gave gifts made of wax, and only then medals and rosaries. Along with the development of pilgrimage and the wealth of the pilgrims, the gifts began to take the form of valuable items. They were gilded monstrances, altars, paintings, vestments. Among the gifts you can also see those donated by the Polish kings Zygmunt I Stary, King Zygmunt III Waza, Władysław IV Wasa, Michael Korybut Wiśniowiecki, Jan III Sobieski and the kings of the Saxon dynasty, August II Mocny and his son August III. In the cabinets you can also see those donated by the poorer pilgrims, some very peculiar, for example, a pilgrimage staff from the 16th century or a gifts donated by the prisoners of concentration camps or totalitarian regime. From the 17th century to the present days, the Pauline recorded all the votive offerings in the inventory books. In the treasury there are only some gifts; some can be seen also in St. Roch Bastion or at the Museum of the 600th anniversary of Jasna Gora. The rest is stored in special rooms.

After seeing the treasury we invite you to the exit. Along the way, we suggest to step by the National Memorial Chapel.
