Jasna Gora in Czestochowa - Station 16 - National Memorial Chapel

The National Memorial Chapel of Father August Kordecki was located in the remains of the former church tower from the 17th century (photo 01.16.001). The blessing of the chapel took place in 1989. The Chapel serves as a national mausoleum, in which there are the ashes of the fallen Poles. Above the entrance there is the Icon of Our Lady of Jasna Gora integrated into an isosceles cross, resembling an order (photo 01.16.002). In the urns are deposited the ashes of, among other, the fallen during Warsaw Uprising, the soldiers of, those killed in concentration camps or in Stalin's gulags. There are also urns with the soil from the battlefields of the I and II World War, from the January and November uprising, from Tobruk, Narvik, Westerplatte, and Monte Cassino. There are also plaques dedicated to those who died during the strike in Poznan, Radom, Gdansk, and Silesia. In one of the urns there is soil from the place of the martyrdom of the Blessed priest Jerzy Popieluszko. The interior is decorated with replicas of military medals and badges. In the windows there are stained glass with the image of Our Lady Queen of Poland, Our Lady of AK (Armia Krajowa – Home Army), Our Lady of Ostra Brama, and Our Lady of Katyn.

Jasna Gora is visited by 3.2 million pilgrims and tourists, representing 80 countries from around the world. Most of foreigner visitors come from Italy, Spain, Germany, USA, and France.

During a year, reach the monastery 285 pilgrim groups. 144,000 people made the road walking. 82 groups arrived on bicycles, 8 came running, 2 came on horseback, and 1 on roller blades.

135 cardinals, archbishops, and bishops from 21 countries of the world were among the Jasna Gora pilgrims.

Were celebrated 69,000 Masses, during which were given nearly two million communion. The priests celebrated 55 marriages and 52 baptisms, and confessed almost 33,000 hours, which gives together 1,300 days.

The pilgrims made more than 1,800 votive gifts, and the office of Jasna Gora sent 124,000 letters.

Interestingly, in Jasna Gora during a year play 78 choirs, orchestras, and bands from Poland and abroad.
